Safety & Prohibited
Items Policy

For the safety of all guests, staff and volunteers, as well as the preservation of the property, facility, exhibits and historic artifacts, please observe the following when entering the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center facility and grounds:

  1. All bags are subject to inspection in the Museum & Visitor Center.
  2. Prohibited bags when inside the Museum & Visitor Center and Gettysburg Foundation buildings*:
    • Cooler bags
    • Luggage
    • Bags with wheels
  3. The following Items are prohibited from Gettysburg Foundation property including the Museum & Visitor Center and Gettysburg Foundation historic sites and experiences*:
    • Possession, smoking, vaping and consumption of any marijuana, including marijuana considered to be medical marijuana within the medical Marijuana Act
    • Weapons/firearms, except qualified law enforcement and excluding antique or reproduction/replica weapons. Antique or reproduction weapons will be subject to a Black Powder and Saber inspection.
    • Knives/blades longer than 3.5 inches
    • Clubs, hammers, martial arts devices and related items
    • Flammable liquids and gases greater than 0.5 oz
    • Fireworks, ammunitions, explosive devices and related materials
    • Paint and related marking materials, spray cans and other aerosols
    • Other items deemed dangerous, suspicious or inappropriate by staff
  4. Prohibited activities in the Museum & Visitor Center and on the grounds, as well as all Gettysburg Foundation property, historic sites and experiences*: Recreational activities, such as ball playing, kite flying, skateboarding and inline skating. Equipment related to these and other sporting/recreational activities is prohibited.
  5. Child or baby strollers are prohibited in the Museum & Visitor Center theaters (for the film) and in the Cyclorama area or on the platform. Stroller parking is conveniently located in the museum lobby near the theater entrances for use during the Film/Cyclorama show.

Superintendent's Compendium: Visit the National Park Service site and the Superintendent’s Compendium for a summary of park specific rules implemented under 36 Code of Federal Regulations (36 CFR). The Superintendent’s Compendium serves as public notice, identifies areas closed for public use, provides a list of activities requiring either a special use permit or reservation, and elaborates on public use and resource protection regulations pertaining specifically to the administration of the park.
