Gettysburg Foundation Announces Ford Family Day 2018

July 20, 2018

The Ford Motor Company Fund is once again sponsoring a day of free educational programs at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center on Saturday, August 4, 2018. The event is a collaboration of Ford Motor Company Fund, the Gettysburg Foundation and Gettysburg National Military Park. The public is welcome to come and enjoy an activity-filled day for adults and children alike, with free admission to the Cyclorama, Film and Museum, along with other special events and activities held only on this day.

The Ford Motor Company Fund has been an integral part of community events and education initiatives at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. As part of its commitment to the value of preserving American heritage, Ford established the "Ford Motor Company Fund Education Center" at the heart of the new Museum and Visitor Center when it opened in 2008. A decade later, the Ford Motor Company Fund Education Center continues to serve as an indoor classroom and is central to educational programing at the Gettysburg National Military Park, including Ford Family Day activities. More than two million on-site visitors have participated in educational programs at the Ford Motor Company Fund Education Center and millions more students have visited Gettysburg virtually through National Park Service distance learning programs.

Since 2014, the Ford Motor Company Fund has provided funding for the annual Ford Family Day each summer, which offers a broad range of free, family-friendly educational programming in and around the Museum and Visitor Center. Special Ranger-led activities focus on stories and themes that appeal to families and children. An encampment of living historians, representing the 15th New Jersey infantry, will be located on the front lawn of the Visitor Center. Period-dressed living historians will present demonstrations of 19th century crafts on the lawn and in the Visitor Center. Musicians will perform Civil War-period music. A local ice cream shop will provide visitors with free ice cream.
