Organized annually and led by the National Environmental Education Foundation, in partnership with the National Park Service and other federal agencies, National Public Lands Day is recognized on the fourth Saturday of September. Since 1994, hundreds of thousands of volunteers have helped to restore and preserve public lands during this annual event. The day provides environmental enthusiasts an opportunity to volunteer and show appreciation for public land, including national parks. This clean-up event brings people together for a common goal, stewarding America’s natural resources for future generations. This annual day also offers the chance to connect with new communities, create relationships among those working together toward a common goal and to use America’s public lands for education, recreation and overall health. This year’s public lands day theme is Together for Tomorrow.
