20th Annual Remembrance Day Illumination

October 17, 2022

The Gettysburg Foundation presents the 20th annual Remembrance Day Illumination on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the Gettysburg National Cemetery.

The commemoration features a luminary candle on all 3,512 Civil War soldiers’ graves. The fallen soldiers’ names are read throughout the evening. Guests may enter the cemetery through the gate at Taneytown Road or the gate at Baltimore Street. The event is dependent on favorable weather conditions.

Support the Gettysburg Foundation with a heartfelt donation for the 2022 Remembrance Day Illumination by sponsoring a candle in honor or memory of a loved one. A candle sponsorship is $18.63. Sponsorships will be accepted online or by phone through Friday, Oct. 28, 2022.

Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals to be involved in this commemorative event. Volunteers help set up luminaries, greet visitors at the entrance gates, read the names of the Civil War soldiers buried in the Gettysburg National Cemetery and clean up at the end of the event. Volunteer assignments are limited and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Volunteer requests will be accepted through Monday, Nov. 14, 2022, or until assignments are filled.
