February 1, 2020

EVENT CANCELED

Join Licensed Battlefield Guide Darryl Roberts on Saturday, March 21, 2020 for an exclusive Encounters with History program and tour, In Their Own Words. The experience includes an indoor lecture from 9 a.m. to noon in the Ford Education Center at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center followed by lunch and an outdoor tour on the battlefield from 1 to 4 p.m. Friends of Gettysburg receive a member discount. Non-member registration is $110/person.

Roberts will utilize diaries and other primary sources for participants to trace several soldiers’ lives prior to their arrival in Gettysburg for the battle. The afternoon tour on the battlefield will follow in these soldiers’ footsteps as they engaged in this pivotal battle. Participants will hear first-hand accounts and stories of these soldiers’ encounters.

Gettysburg Foundation periodically offers the Encounters with History series of in-depth programs covering a variety of Civil War and Gettysburg topics. The series brings visitors closer to the stories, the people and the events surrounding the battle and its aftermath. From battlefield strategy and civilian life to early preservation efforts, Licensed Battlefield Guides help participants uncover exclusively known history inside Gettysburg.

An Encounters with History program will also be offered on Saturday, May 23, 2020. Visit GettysburgFoundation.org for upcoming programs in the series and other special events offered by Gettysburg Foundation.
