The Gettysburg Foundation Offers an Exclusive "Spring Muster" Program, April 12-13

The Friends of Gettysburg will host its annual Spring Muster, April 12-13, 2019 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The two-day event offers special programming and an intimate look at the Gettysburg battlefield.

One aspect of the Civil War that is often overlooked is its impact on the civilian population, especially on women.

Join our panel as they explore personal stories and struggles of women during the war. Panel members include: Sue Boardman, Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg National Military Park and Director of the Gettysburg Foundation Leadership Program; Dr. Ashley Luskey, professor and Assistant Director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College; Sr. Betty Ann McNeil, Vincentian Scholar-in-Residence at DePaul University; and Dr. Catherine Clinton, Denman Endowed Professor in American History at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Gene Barr, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry will moderate the panel.

Light refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 13, 7 p.m. Spring Muster Banquet
Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center
 
This year’s banquet keynote address features historian Craig Symonds, author of the book The Elements of Lincoln’s Greatness. Symonds will discuss attributes of Abraham Lincoln’s character and leadership through the prism of his management of naval affairs. The address will include examples of how Lincoln managed the Navy during the Civil War and what that story reveals about him as both president and as a person. 

The banquet begins at 7 p.m. and includes a silent auction, basket raffle and cash bar.
