Gettysburg National Military Park will conduct a prescribed fire between Slyder Lane and South Confederate Avenue on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Weather conditions are right for the prescribed fire to be conducted from late morning through the afternoon. Beginning at 6 a.m., South Confederate Avenue will be closed, and the closure may last more than one day. The picnic area along South Confederate Avenue and the pedestrian and equestrian trails located within the burn area will also be closed. National Park Service staff will monitor air quality and smoke impacts as well as visibility on nearby roads. If smoke conditions reduce visibility, additional roads, trails and areas may be closed temporarily.
Little Round Top is expected to still be accessible during the prescribed fire. Visitors should follow these driving directions to access Little Round Top: from Wheatfield Road to Crawford Avenue to Warren Avenue to Sedgewick Avenue and the Little Round Top parking area.
Visit nps.gov/gett for information on public viewing of the prescribed fire. The National Park Service at Gettysburg will provide up-to-date information on the closure and fire activity on social media using #GettysburgNPS.
