Ford Family Day 2019

Gettysburg Foundation and the Gettysburg National Military Park announce that its sixth annual Ford Family Day will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3. Ford Family Day, made possible through the generous support of the Ford Motor Company Fund, provides a variety of family-friendly educational programs and activities at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center.
 
Ford Family Day activities for the day begin at 8 a.m. and include special ranger-led family activities and hikes, music of the Civil War era, an encampment of living historians, children’s book readings, refreshments and an evening campfire with a ranger from 6-7 p.m.
 
Programs & Activities
 
Film, Cyclorama & Museum Experience
See the Film, A New Birth of Freedom. Experience the sights and sounds of Pickett’s Charge in the iconic Gettysburg Cyclorama. Explore artifacts and interactive exhibits in the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War. Timed tickets are free, courtesy of the Ford Motor Company Fund.
 
National Park Service Family Activities
Join the Family Activities just for kids. A Junior Ranger Station, a Join the Army Program, a Mystery History Guest, a Hands-On History Cart, a Family History Hike and Citizenship Stories will be offered throughout the day.
 
Living History
Mingle with living historians and see their Civil War encampments, trades and household skills.
 
American Democracy
HiSTORY Time: Enjoy children’s book readings throughout the day. Readings are of the books One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote and D is for Democracy.
 
Children’s Voting Activity: Children can learn the importance of voting. Participants under age 18 can vote for their favorite ice cream.

Enjoy Civil War and 19th century music
 
An Evening Campfire with a Ranger
Enjoy an evening campfire and a Park Ranger presentation on the topic of Democracy featuring details of sites linked to the history of American Democracy.
 
Refreshments will be offered: A specially priced picnic lunch and free ice cream while supplies last.
