All day: SPECIAL EXHIBIT: ONE OF FIVE ORIGINAL GETTYSBURG ADDRESS MANUSCRIPTS: Don't miss your chance to see one of the five known Gettysburg Address manuscripts. This version, on loan from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfiled, Ill., is known as the "Everett Copy" because it was requested of President Lincoln by Edward Everett, who was the main orator at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery on November 19, 1863. 11 a.m.: RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY : We invite you to join us for this special ceremony that includes U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne and a special performance by actor Stephen Lang. All are welcome; no ticket required.
Evening: FRIENDS OF GETTYSBURG FIRST CORPS WEEKEND BEGINS
The Friends of Gettysburg’s annual First Corps Weekend begins with a reception in the Refreshment Saloon on Friday evening, features a battlefield tour with Dr. Carol Reardon and Wayne Motts during the day on Saturday (Gen. Armistead, Pickett’s Charge and the Spangler Farm), and ends by joining in the fun at the “Party Like It’s 1863” Gala.
Weekend packages are available to First Corps members of the Friends of Gettysburg; packages include a discounted ticket to the “Party Like It’s 1863” Gala. Special First Corps Package price: $180.
