Tour with a Licensed Battlefield Guide
Licensed Battlefield Guides train for years and must pass extensive tests administered by the National Park Service to qualify to give tours. There are two options for touring—privately in your own car or by bus. See Ticket Prices & Packages for costs, discounts and to purchase tickets and make reservations. Reserve your Licensed Battlefield Guide tour at least three days before your scheduled visit.
Battlefield Tours by Bus
Climb aboard a climate-controlled motor coach for a tour of the battlefield led by a Licensed Battlefield Guide. Along the way, you'll get off the bus several times to experience this hallowed ground. Allow 2 ½ hours total time for this tour. Tours begin at the Visitor Center.
Battlefield Tours by Car
Your own personal Licensed Battlefield Guide will drive your car and take you on a two-hour tour of the battlefield. Guides are available daily, but advance reservations for Licensed Battlefield Guide tours are strongly recommended. Meet your guide at the Visitor Center.
Tour on your own
Throughout the town of Gettysburg and Gettysburg National Military Park, you will find Auto Tour signs and numbers like the one at the left. These signs coordinate with the Official Map and Guide (see below) and many of the books, CDs, and apps available to help you navigate your battlefield tour and identify historic sites.
Field Guides and Audio CD Tours
Tour the Gettysburg battlefield at your own pace following a field guide book or with an audio CD you can listen to in your car. Both can be purchased in the Museum Bookstore.
Self-Guided Auto and Walking Tours
A self-guided tour of Gettysburg National Military Park can be had by car, bicycle or on foot. National Park Service maps and National Cemetery brochures are available at the Visitor Center or may be downloaded using the images below.
